How to add Webcam Overlays to OBS Studio?

A webcam is an essential part of your Twitch, YouTube, or Facebook streams. You can improve its look by adding static or animated borders (frames or overlays are commonly used). We are going to show you how to add webcam overlays to your streams using OBS.

Add the Webcam as a Source to your Scene:

1. Click the “+” sign in the “Sources” section and select “Video Capture Device”.

2. Select your camera from the “Device” section and turn on “Deactivate when not showing” to be able to use the same camera in multiple scenes and change their settings separately. Click “OK”.


Add the Overlay as a Source:

3. Click the “+” sign in the “Sources” section and select “Media Source” for an animated border or “Image Source” for a static one.

4. Click “Browse” in the “Local File” section, select your overlay file and click “Open”. (Turn on “Loop” for animated borders.) Click “OK”.


Add a Mask to the Webcam to Change its Shape:

5. Right-click on the “Video Capture Device” source and select “Filters”.

6. Click the “+” sign under the “Effect Filters” section and select “Image Mask/Blend”.

7. Click “Browse” in the “Path” section and select your mask file. Click “Close”.

8. Align the webcam and frame.


Add a Color Correction Filter to the Overlay to Change its Color:

9. Right-click on the “Media Source” and select “Filters”.

10. Click the “+” sign under the “Effect Filters” section and select “Color Correction”.

11. Select your preferred color by clicking “Select Color” in the:
“Color Multiply” section for changing Whites,
“Color Add” section for changing Blacks.
Select “Close”.

12. Select both sources, right-click on them and select “Group Selected Items” to be able to move them together.

  • Right-click on the “Video Capture Device” source and select “Filters”.
  • Click the “+” sign under the “Effect Filters” section and select “Image Mask/Blend”.
  • Click “Browse” in the “Path” section and select your mask file. Click “Close”.
  • Align the webcam and frame.

  • Right-click on the “Media Source” and select “Filters”.
  • Click the “+” sign under the “Effect Filters” section and select “Color Correction”.
  • Select your preferred color by clicking “Select Color” in the:
    • “Color Multiply” section for changing Whites,
    • “Color Add” section for changing Blacks.
  • Select “Close”.
Select both sources, right-click on them and select "Group Selected Items" to be able to move them together.
